Terms of Use of the Web page and its contents (hereinafter referred to as “the Web page”)

This Web Page is maintained by the World Health Organization (WHO), situated 20 avenue Appia, CH1211 – Geneva 27, Switzerland.

By using this Web Page, users agree to comply to the binding terms of use hereunder.

By continuing to access, link to, or use this Web page, including but not limited to text, content, photographs, video, audio and graphics, services, materials, publications and information, you signify your agreement to comply to the binding terms hereunder.

The World Health Organization reserves the right to modify the terms of use at any time and such modifications shall be effective immediately. Users are therefore encouraged to review the terms of use whenever accessing or using this Web page. Access, link to, or use of the Web page, or any part thereof, after the posting of modifications to the terms of use will constitute users’ acceptance of the terms of use as modified.

Users who do not wish to accept the terms of use may not access, link or use the Web page nor its related materials and information.

  1. Use and Copyright of data, information, materials and publications published on Web Page

    The responsibility for opinions expressed herein rests solely with their authors, and publication does not constitute an endorsement by the World Health Organization of the opinions expressed herewith.

    The information in the various pages of the Web page is issued for general distribution. The information presented is protected under the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literature and Artistic works, under other international conventions and under national laws on copyright and neighbouring rights. Extracts of the information in the web site may be reviewed, reproduced or translated for research or private study but not for sale or for use in conjunction with commercial purposes.

    Users agree that use of the Web page and whole or part of its contents is solely for their own personal, non-commercial purposes and benefit and, if applicable, for their organization’s own non-commercial purposes and benefit.

    User may not reproduce, recompile, decompile, disassemble, distribute, publish, display, perform, modify, upload to, create derivative works from, download, or in any way exploit any part, material, information nor content of the Web page.

    User may download material from the Web page and/or make a reasonable number of copies of the material from the Web page for their own, personal noncommercial use and benefit and if applicable, their organization’s own non-commercial purposes and benefit.

    The Web page and all information contained therein may not be used to construct a database of any kind. Nor may the Web page and whole or part of its contents be stored (in its entirety or in any party) in databases for access by any third party to distribute any database services containing all or part of the Web page.

    Users hereby agree to use the Web page and any information herein only as permitted by law, including applicable export and control laws and regulations.

    Users may not use the Web page or any part thereof for any illegal purpose, to facilitate the violation of any laws or regulations, or in a manner inconsistent with these terms of use.

    Use of the Web page does not give users ownership of any intellectual property rights of any material whatsoever published on the Web page or of the content that users may access. Users may not reproduce content from the Web page unless users obtain permission in writing as specified above or are otherwise permitted by law. These terms do not grant users the right to use any branding or logos used in any material whatsoever on the Web page. Users must not remove, obscure or alter any legal notices displayed in or along on any part of the Web page or its contents.

    Users may not access, monitor, or copy any content or information on the Web page using any automated nor manual process. Users will not use the Web page or the information contained therein in unsolicited mailings or spam material.

    The Web page is available on mobile devices. Users must not use such in a way that distracts them and prevents them from obeying traffic or safety laws.

    The World Health Organization will not accept any responsibility whatsoever for any damages arising from unsafe, unreasonable and/or imprudent use of the Web page. The use of this Web page is at the users’ sole risk.

  3. Warranties and Disclaimers

    The designations employed herein, which are in conformity with United Nations practice, do not imply the expression of any opinion on the part of the World Health Organization concerning the legal status of any country, area or territory or of its authorities, or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers, nor any expression of any opinion relating to a concept, idea, products or services developed by its member organizations or third-parties. While care has been taken in the preparation and reproduction of the data published herein, the World Health Organization declines liability for any inaccuracy, omission or other error in the data, and, in general, for any financial or other loss or damage in any way resulting from the use of contents published on this Web page.

    The World Health Organization does not warrant that the information contained on any part of the Web page is complete and correct and shall not be liable whatsoever for any damages incurred as a result of its use.

    The World Health Organization does not warrant that the Web page and included contents, documents, data and information are compatible with the users’ equipment or that the Web page is free of errors or viruses, or any other harmful, invasive, or corrupted files, and is not liable for any damage users may suffer as a result of such destructive features.

    The World Health Organization proposes a Web page which has been developed with a reasonable level of skill. However, it declines any responsibility for lost revenues, data, financial losses or reputational damages resulting from the use of the services herein.

    Consequently, users hold the World Health Organization and its agents and employees harmless from any claim, action or proceedings arising from or related to the use of the Web page or violation of these terms of use, including any liability or expense arising from claims, losses, damages, judgements, litigation costs and legal fees.

    Under no circumstances, including but not limited to negligence, shall the World Health Organization nor its employees or representatives be liable to the users or any third party for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from use of or inability to use the Web page and whole or part of its contents. Applicable law may not allow the limitation or exclusion of liability or incidental or consequential damages.

  4. Unilateral modification of these Terms & Conditions

    The World Health Organization reserves the right to modify these terms or any additional terms that apply to the use of the Web page, for example, to reflect changes to the law or changes to the contents of the Web page. Users will be not be informed of any notice of modifications to these terms henceforth and are encouraged to regularly check these terms of use.

    Changes will not apply retrospectively but will become effective immediately. In the event where a user does not agree to the modified terms for the use of the Web page, the use of the Web page should be discontinued.

    In the event of any inconsistency between these terms and the additional terms, the additional terms will prevail to the extent of the inconsistency. In the event where a particular term is not enforceable on legal grounds, this will not affect any other terms whatsoever.

  5. Web page Privacy Policy

    The World Health Organization’s Web page may use cookies and technological means provided by a third-party to store and use data that are necessary for operation purposes. No other use is made of the data, and the data are not passed on to third parties.

    Every time users visit a page on the Web page and every time a file is downloaded, information about the activity is processed and stored in a temporary protocol file. Before it is stored, each data set is rendered anonymous by altering the IP address.

    The following information may be stored for each page viewed and each file downloaded:

    • Technical details of the browser used
    • Anonymous IP address
    • Date and time
    • Page opened/name of the file downloaded
    • Quantity of data transferred
    • Notification of whether viewing or download was successful

    Temporary session cookies are used each time users view an individual page, to make navigation easier. Cookies are small text files that are stored locally in their browser cache. Session cookies do not include any personal data and expire at the end of each session, or after the completion of a user survey, which is conducted as a rule every two years. The World Health Organization’s Web page does not use methods that make it possible to track users’ browsing behaviours.

    Postal addresses and email addresses as well as any personal details provided by users are used exclusively for correspondence or delivery purposes.

  6. Links with external websites

    The Web page may contain links to external sites. Responsibility for the content of the external sites linked to this website always lies with their respective publishers.

    If the World Health Organization becomes aware or is notified by a third party that a linked external site gives rise to civil or criminal liability, it will remove the link to this site immediately. The World Health Organization’s expressly dissociates itself from such content.
